After your "Torture Lit" entry, this actually looked pretty good. And, at an age far surpassing that of your kids, I still love cheap jewelry. Where do I sign up?

Oh, I hate those Rainbow fairy books -- I think I've now read about 8. Wait until they discover the pet fairy series... it is amazing how many books they can churn out with the same plot, illustrations, and lack of character development.

To be fair, Scholastic publishes great authors and illustrators at really affordable prices -- which they do mix with supermarket crap.

The school does not get a cut from Scholastic -- they get free books for the library and classrooms. I also don't like their marketing strategy, but we have gotten some great books from them. I actually miss having access!

I heard of one school in Bloomington where the parents all got together and agreed on an amount they would all pay per year -- with the agreement of no shakedowns. You should try to get it going at Rogers!

While I couldn't agree more about the oppressiveness of the zeal with which schools use children to shake down parents, I regret to inform you that you wound up with the GOOD necklace book. The truly crappy ones have a little plastic window in the cover with the necklace and 4 pages of "text," whereas the fairy books actually exist in a necklace free version....

Wow! Yes, definitely. Of course we could also make a connection to my next post, in that these fictional serial killers turn human beings into taxidermy (eww).

Recently I sent a taxidermied Bengal tiger (head and skin), which had been in the family, through UPS to a relative who really wanted it. I found myself labelling it "stuffed animals and clothes" since I packed it in some excess parkas. (This was because although this tiger was shot pre-1920 or whenever the ban went into effect, I wouldn't have been able to document it to the UPS peopleThis got me thinking that stuffed animals are relatives of poor taxidermied creatures. . We love their fur and bright eyes. We want to cuddle up with them and own them.. etc. and so on. Let's see, when did the Teddy Bear come in?
Also the pharoahs mummified their cats to take them along.

What a lot of bull!
Of course flea circuses are real. My own great grandfather performed in one. You can read about his tragic demise in one of the links on my blog.

HiHo!

If taxiderms are icons or indicies, I like that Potter's are holding up a slate of symbols.
